Today we are at the Tommy Warren Duals, at Oconee High School. We are getting to enjoy the day at Coach Josh's old stomping ground, and from what we hear he did most of the stomping. This is a very well ran tournament, with little down time.
We are divided into four pools, with 5 teams per pool. Our pool includes North Oconee, Henry County, Hart County and Banks County. That will be the order that we will wrestle in our pool.
Starting out with North Oconee, if we have a few holes in our line up, then their line up was a hole. Green started things off at 112 and just pounded his opponent, and I really mean pounded. He lost to dq/injuy to the guys shoulder being hurt after wrestling very well. At 119, Cox was up next and got the six points back in a hurry. Getting the pin in about 45 seconds. Higgins took a forfeit, and Crankshaw cranked out another first round pin.
From that point we see N. Oconee's holes. We get forfeits, or lose all the way back to Durham at 103. Our freshman Durham looks like a veteran again, winning 8-4 in a three round battle. That would finish off N. Oconee, and move us to a 1-0 start.
After beating up on North Oconee, we move on to Henry County. Another beating is about to take place, but we won't be giving this one. I was told Henry County was good, I guess I didn't really understand good. I will just say that at 160 and 215 we did stand our ground, and scored some points. At 160, Rogerson battled hard as always, and gets the win after his opponent rolled his ankle. Reeves at 215, went all three rounds and won 3-2 to stay undefeated on the year. We are now 1-1 on the day.
Moving into our third match of the day, we take on Hart County. This was a very close battle going back and forth until the very end. Crankshaw wins a tough match at 130, winning 6-2 in three. E. Shea is up next at 135, he gets the pins and six needed points, but we lose him for the day with a injury. At 140 Ragland hangs tough for a 4-3 decision. We take forfeits or loses, all the way up to Mathis. The big guy steps in and gets a much needed pin for six points. We end up at 119, with the score all tied up. B. Shea does it again, he gets a quick pin, and we move on to 2-1 on the day.
We get Banks County next, and with a victory here could wrestle for a 3rd or 4th place finish. It was not to be, the Banks Co. team was too much for us this day. Crank started us out really well with a nice pin, but we headed south from there. We are down 6-36 before Reeves, Mathis and Durham all get pins to give us new hope. That would be all the steam we have left, taking the loss 24-52. We will now move on to the 5th/6th place match against Morgan County.
We are very evenly matched against Morgan Co. So evenly matched that at the end we are tied 39-39. I guess the tie breaker came down to who scored the most points first? As you guessed, it was not us. We take 6th place on the day, and move on to Christmas break.
Our next action will be the Fayette Christmas Classic. This tournament is loaded with good teams, you won't want to miss it. It will be on Wednesday and Thursday after Christmas, please come out and support these guys as they battle their hardest. See ya then!
