County Champs 12-15-10

Wednesday night we have the biggest night in Coweta wrestling.  Three schools, one goal, bring home the county championship.  Defending four time county champs, Northgate, will not see a fifth tonight.  It was our night from our first match to our last.  This year ECHS will be crowned 2010 County Champions!

We started the night off against ever improving Newnan High.  At 119, Cox skipping his Mom's big breakfast, starts things off right.  He builds a 10-0 lead before pinning his foe early in the second, to get this night rolling.  B. Shea follows with a tech of his own, dominating from start to finish.  Next the machine, better known as Higgins, and Beast boy or Crankshaw, clean the mat with their opponents.

We are rolling now with a huge lead and never look back.  E. Shea, with nerves of steel, beats a good Newnan wrestler.  Z. Kryzsiak pins in the first round, followed by Rogerson, Reeves, Mathis and Nelson all dominating with their own pins.

After the first match has ended, and the tension is easing, we have beat Newnan 56-23.  Nortgate takes on Newnan next, and the results are about the same.  Now we get down to the business of the night, to take down the four time Coweta champs Northgate High.

We start off right in the trenches, at 130, and the Crank is ever spinning in total control.  A rematch from CRWA, we enjoy the same results.  Crankshaw starts the show off with a dominating pin for the first Six.  E. Shea up next at 135, nerves now calmed a bit, He keeps a good focus and gets us another win to stretch to lead.

Northgate runs off a couple of wins to take the lead back for a while.  Then the senior, Z. Krzysiak steps in for a show of his own.  This win was huge, it put us back on track, and the fans back in the game.  Zach gets the pin for a much needed six points, and puts us back in front.

We fall behind again before the two big guns make their appearance on the mat.  Reeves, at 215, is undefeated and expects to remain so tonight.  He has his way with his opponent, and gets the first round pin to bring us a bit closer to our goal.  Mathis is up next with the same results.  In the first round he puts the smack down on Northgate, and rings up six more points.  The fans are now feeling relieved, the goal is now possible.

The 103 match to me, was the point of no return.  Durham came out and it was showtime again, this kid never let up.  His victory put the four time champs down for good.  Nelson at 112, dominated his opponent for two rounds.  He started hurting in the third, and could have easily walked off the mat.  Like the true warrior that he is, he stayed in the match and brings home another win for the home team.

      B. Shea is up next at 119 going against one of Northgate's best.  Shea battles hard and smart for a 4-2 win, and the county championship is now a reality.  The machine/Higgins at 125 is now up, as the celebration has already started.  The machine has a hard time getting started, until the coach reminds him he has a match to finish.  He does just that, finishing the night the same way we started it, another pin for the County Championship.

The matches are over now, nerves have finally calmed.  This night we are the best, and the coach/kids did really well also.  Tonight we all came together to support this team, and we see the results, simply the best.  Thanks to all that got behind this team tonight in anyway, as Jeff always said, we need you.

We are headed north Saturday morning, to Oconee.  We will battle in the Tommy Warren Duals, starting at 9 am with some very good teams.  A strong showing here will be nice before we take the Christmas break.  As always we need all the support we can get, so we will see ya then!
