Harrison Tournament 12-4-10

We get our first tournament of the year at Harrison High school.  We are missing four key wrestlers, with Crankshaw 145, Sherwood 189, Reeves 215, and Mathis our heavyweight, all out.  With a young line up we are facing some tough competition.
The first round of wrestling starts and it is moving fast. We seem to have guys on every mat at the same time.  After the dust settles and the round is over, we have six wrestlers with wins to advance to second round semis.  We start with our new 103 Durham, looking good for his first varsity start with a 8-5 win over Harrison.  Next B. Shea at 119 gets his first action of the year, winning a 7-5 decision over North Paulding.  Drew, the machine, Higgins battles Wheeler High for a major decision and advances also.  We move up to 130 now, but only weighing in at 121, Cox pins his North Paulding opponent and says who needs breakfast anyway.  Tyler Rogerson, at 160, gets a first round forfeit and  a free pass to move on.  Our last wrestler to advance was Holladay at 189, beating a good Harrison wrestler 2-0 in a close battle.
We move on through the wrestle backs with E. Shea looking good in his new shoes, advancing in a close 9-8 victory over County rival Northgate.  We also get some free passes for Ragland and Pullen to move on with byes.  After we finish the next two rounds, we have three warriors still in the ring.  They will all fight for a third or fourth place finish.  We start at 119, B. Shea was gassed when he won his first match and continued to fight all day.  His final match was very special said his Mom, she will never forget this one.  He wins a strategic battle against Harrison and brings home the third place medal.  Next the machine/Higgins at 125 keeps his opponent tangled up and wins a third place medal for himself.  Chris Holladay had a very good day, he fought hard every match and surprised most by coming away with his own third place finish-congrats Chris!!

We are back home next Tuesday, 12-7-10 at 5:30.  We will dual with regional foes Luella and Newton.  You won't want to miss the action and the chance to support our kids.  See ya then!!
